The hybrid energy management system (hEMS) uses energy storage to provide power so that fewer gensets can be operated. In the time plots above and below, hEMS provides power while drilling and recharges its batteries during connections. This allows the rig to operate with two gensets while the third genset is turned off until needed.
hEMS uses predictive algorithms and machine learning to automatically turn gensets on and off, all while ensuring that operations on the rig always have power. The hEMS also provides immediate power if a genset faults. The time plot below shows an example from the field where hEMS kept the rig drilling ahead when a genset faulted.

The benefits of hEMS are summarized on the Applications page.
